Synergy On Expedition: The Morar Peninsula
Explorers Maleek and Nikki and their team headed to the wilds of the Morar Peninsula, Scotland, to put the Synergy collection to the test.
The Morar Peninsula is sandwiched between sea lochs and nestled along the edge of the North Atlantic. Its vast landscape is rocky, dotted with patches of heather, and surrounded by white sandy beaches.
The team hiked towards their destination: a group of peaks making up the highest points of North Morar.
“Our objective was the Northern side of a very steep ravine overlooked by Sgurr Eireagoraidh, but we initially encountered a beautiful still loch which mirrored all the mountains it was surrounded by.” - Maleek
Maleek wore the Synergy Waterproof in oak green, the Super Terra pants in grey, the black Synergy fleece, Dart long sleeve and Brew beanie.
“A solitary picnic bench provided the perfect excuse to bust out the first round of snacks, as the glassy surface of the loch was gently shattered by the pitter patter of a short-lived shower.” - Nikki
Nikki wore the Synergy Waterproof in saffron red, the black Terra Mission pants, the Synergy fleece, long sleeve and Brew beanie in eclipse blue.
Despite the heavy cloud covering the sky, the team made their way over the rough ground. As they moved inland, the paths began to erode into boggy earth that felt soft underfoot.
The Synergy gear adapted to their needs as the environment and conditions changed.
The Climb
Getting closer to the peaks, Maleek, Nikki and the team began the climb. It was sharper than anticipated originally while camped out at the base. Heather-covered ledges crisscrossing each crag stood between the team and the ascent.
“Making our way up, up and up. Some of the false summits were rewarded with breathtaking views overlooking the loch.” - Nikki
Reaching the approach, the skies cleared, and the wind calmed, as if on cue. The team knew that this was the final push, and the finale of their adventure awaited them at the summit.
“The sun lit the opposing hill, which towered above us as we looked on it from where we were stood. The valley below us was cast in the shadow and channeling the wind through it.” - Nikki
The views of sea surrounding the summit were mesmerising. The ground they had covered that morning, through the rain and wind, fell away and plunged into the Atlantic Ocean.
“The hour we spent watching the sun dip into the North Atlantic behind Eigg and Skye was another truly special moment, making the hardships of the day worthwhile.” - Maleek
Montane's Synergy effortlessly adapted to the unpredictable conditions the highland trail presented it. The Synergy Jacket in particular, was waterproof and breathable, protecting Maleek and Nikki from the wet weather while keeping them warm and dry.
